What is distributed submetering?
Distributed submetering is a consumption metering scheme for energy (or resources such as water or gas) in which individual meters are installed in each unit or space within a centralized system, such as a building, condominium, or industrial park. This approach allows the consumption of each user or unit to be recorded independently, even when they are all connected to a single main source of supply.
Main features:
- Centralized system with individual meters: A main meter records the total supply, and distributed submeters measure consumption in each unit.
- Independent consumption management: Each user or unit pays according to their usage, promoting more conscious and fair consumption.
Common application:
- Residential buildings (apartments).
- Commercial spaces (shopping centres, offices).
- Industrial parks.
- Community energy networks (such as shared solar panels).
Benefits of Distributed Submetering:
- Energy efficiency: Promotes individual responsibility in consumption.
- Transparency: Facilitates the identification of usage patterns and potential waste.
- Cost savings: Allows you to detect problems, such as leaks or unusual consumption, in each unit.
- Flexibility: Compatible with distributed generation systems, such as solar energy, to measure individual contribution and consumption.
